,

Ask anyone and they're more likely to tell you they're scared of sharks than mosquitoes… But the fearsome shark killed just 8 people worldwide last year, while more than 619,000 lives were taken by the tiny, malaria-carrying mosquito. Nearly half the world lives at risk of dying from a mosquito bite.

It’s time to bite back.

August 20 marked World Mosquito Day, a key moment for raising awareness and inspiring action against malaria. Our Leadership Council member David Beckham used his platform to spread the word, and even teamed up with Bill Gates for a game of “finger football”! ⚽👇

Inspiring action in Kenya at DevCon

At Kenya’s Devolution Conference on 15-19 August, we made sure malaria stayed high on the agenda for the county governments responsible for health budgets.

Working closely with the National Malaria Control Program, the issue of malaria was brought forward in high-level sessions on health and digital health innovations. Lizz Ntonjira, the co-chair of the Zero Malaria Campaign Coalition, moderated the high-level health panel.

In a dynamic Youth Session, Kenyan influencer and Zero Malaria ambassador Abel Mutua joined as a panellist and spoke on behalf of the youth movement committed to ending malaria in Kenya.

Abel’s 600,000 strong audience were given a window into the energy of the conference as he hosted an Instagram Live from a Zero Malaria booth.

The buzz of the conference generated media coverage in TV, radio and print, ensuring the message echoed across Kenya. This included an op-ed in The Daily Nation ([link removed]) from our Africa Director, Rhoda Igweta.

With this flurry of exciting activity, critical inroads were made to influence county-level health service delivery and continue Kenya’s tremendous progress towards achieving Zero Malaria. Your support makes all this possible.

Thank you,

Malaria No More UK Team
