Match expiring midnight tonight!

People For the American Way

Supporter,

As school bells are starting to ring around the country, we at People For the American Way are gearing up for a crucial battle to protect the rights of our children as they head back to school. We believe that every child deserves the freedom to learn and explore, unburdened by censorship or restrictions on their education.

Your support today can have 2X the impact to protect our children from right-wing MAGA extremists’ efforts to censor our nation’s classrooms and libraries. >>

Our nation's schools have always been places of growth, discovery, and intellectual curiosity. They are the breeding grounds for our future leaders, thinkers, and innovators. But today, our educational system faces an unprecedented threat - the erosion of academic freedom and the rise of censorship from the Far Right within our classrooms.

“[T]he freedom to learn… is what makes us better citizens, better voters, better able to stand up to against authoritarianism.”

– Svante Myrick, President, People For

In communities across the country – from Hanover, Virginia to Temecula, California – we are witnessing efforts to stifle open and honest discussions on vital topics, including history, social justice, and equality. This censorship not only hampers the learning experience but also undermines the values of free expression and critical thinking that are the bedrock of our democracy.

We refuse to stand by and let this happen. We are committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to explore diverse perspectives, engage in meaningful dialogue, and develop the critical thinking skills necessary for success in today's world. But we can't do it alone.

That's where you come in. Your support can make a profound difference in our fight to protect our children's right to learn.

With your contribution, we can:

Advocate for Academic Freedom: We are working with communities like Temecula, CA to protect the rights of teachers and students to discuss important topics without fear of censorship or retaliation.

Mobilize Communities: We are engaging with parents, students, and concerned citizens across the nation to build a powerful movement dedicated to preserving our educational values. Our Grandparents For Truth program is the first of its kind in the nation to mobilize grandparents to fight for our children’s futures.

Hold Politicians Accountable: When politicians try to gain national attention or score points by coming after our children’s education, we are calling them out and bringing their actions to light—which is often an important step in reversing or backing off decisions to censor our children’s access to our history. We’ll continue fighting back against Republican attempts to whitewash history, like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s efforts to pressure the College Board to remove portions of the AP African American Studies course that his administration deemed “controversial.” After People For waged a large public pressure campaign, the College Board reversed course and restored the curriculum that was eliminated.

Your donation today, no matter the size, will help us stand strong in the face of censorship and protect the future of our children. Every dollar brings us one step closer to our goal of ensuring that our schools remain bastions of free thought and open discussion.

With gratitude,

– People For the American Way
