Working families are standing on the edge of a cliff.

Congress secured the child care industry during and after the pandemic with a $24 billion investment as part of the American Rescue Plan Act in 2021. Now that funding is expected to expire tomorrow. The ramifications of this change are disastrous; According to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, it’s estimated that over 3 million children could lose access to care, particularly those from underserved communities. Meanwhile, over 200,000 child care providers could lose their jobs and over 70,000 child care facilities would be at risk of closing.

With childcare costs outpacing inflation [[link removed]] and millions of working families paying an average of $10,000 per year on childcare, we can’t afford to let this funding lapse without any plan to address this issue. In the short-term, our only solution is to continue support for child care stabilization grants.
