Sea Shepherd Pays Tribute to Bob Barker

Dear John,

Sea Shepherd vessels the world over lowered their flags to half-mast this weekend in tribute to Bob Barker, one of our most prominent and steadfast supporters. The 99 year-old veteran of the US Navy was a lifelong advocate for protecting animals from cruelty and neglect, and an early donation to Sea Shepherd in 2009 resulted in a ship bearing his name. The M/V Bob Barker would go on to fight some of our most iconic battles on behalf of marine wildlife, from forcing the retreat of a Japanese whaling fleet from the Antarctic, to pursuing the internationally wanted vessel Thunder for 110 days across three oceans before finally bringing it to justice. I always saw the Bob Barker vessel as an ocean-going embassy that took Mr. Barker’s message of compassion for animals to every corner of the globe,” remarked Sea Shepherd’s Director of Campaigns Peter Hammarstedt. Read the full statement issued here.

His legacy is one of compassion, activism and impact. Millions of animals have lived better, healthier, happier and longer lives due to his willingness to use his platform on their behalf.

We at Sea Shepherd pledge to re-double our efforts on behalf of endangered marine wildlife in Bob Barker’s name.

For the Oceans,

The Captains, Crews, and Staff
