climate activists that Montanans have a right to a clean and healthy
environment.^1

This ruling is the first of its kind, but we know it won’t be the last.
This win came on the heels of multiple other legal victories from around
the world that established the government’s role in protecting its
citizens from climate change.

Our movement is gaining momentum every day and is only growing stronger
thanks to the advocacy of activists like these young folks in Montana.

But fighting climate change is a collective effort: It’s a fight we all
need to be a part of.

The young people who brought this case forward argued that Montana’s
policy of evaluating requests for fossil fuel permits violates the state’s
constitution since it doesn’t allow the state to measure the effects of
greenhouse gas emissions.

The judge affirmed the climate activists' argument, and even went so far
as to say:

“Montana's emissions and climate change have been proven to be a
substantial factor in causing climate impacts to Montana's environment and
harm and injury”

So, to be blunt: Big Oil should be scared,
John.

We’re fighting to hold fossil fuel companies accountable at every level of
government, from town halls to state legislatures to the White House. And
with this massive legal victory, our momentum is only growing.

We know that together, we will continue to fight for our rights and our
planet, take on fossil fuel companies, push our governments to do more —
