Dear John,

Throughout August and into September, we’ve been lifting up women’s leadership in a social media campaign across our platforms (and if you’re not following us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, you should check us out!)

In the words of President and CEO Teresa C. Younger, the Ms. Foundation is a “leaderful” organization. Just this month, our Birth Justice Program Officer Sona Smith was announced as a member of the Obama Foundation’s inaugural Leaders USA Program. Sona pioneered our birth justice grantmaking initiative, which aims to address race-based health disparities in birth experiences and birth outcomes.

At our annual Ms. on Martha’s event, Teresa spoke to Jocelyn Frye, President of the National Partnership for Women & Families, Fatima Goss Graves, President and CEO of the National Women's Law Center about Black women’s leadership in philanthropy, policy, and social justice. Find pictures from the event here!

At every turn in this work, I’m inspired by the leaders I meet and opportunity to learn from them.

In solidarity,

Ruth McFarlane
Chief Advancement Officer

Ms. Foundation in the News

Teresa C. Younger spoke to 6th-grader Nylah about what it means to advocate for women across the country on the podcast New York Edge. They discussed the joys of family support, some of the big challenges facing women this year, and the intersection of women’s rights and Black history.

Our annual Ms. on Martha’s event received write ups in the MV Times and the Vineyard Gazette!

“Women and girls of color have always been the lead on fights for any equity and justice issue from civil rights to reproductive justice to Earth justice," said Chief Program Officer Ellen Liu.

Upcoming Event: Ms. Speaks Out

50 years ago, Gloria Steinem and other feminists founded two iconic organizations: the Ms. Foundation and Ms Magazine! We're coming together for a conversation about the future of feminism that will feature Irin Carmon, Ruth MacFarlane, and Joanne Smith, executive director and founder of grantee partner Girls for Gender Equity. Jennifer Weiss-Wolf will moderate.

Join us on Sept. 20 at the Center for Brooklyn History! Register and learn more here.

Women Deliver Conference

Last month, Teresa C. Younger traveled to Kigali, Rwanda for the Women Deliver 2023 Conference, where she joined over 6,300 feminists from around the world to learn, share and find the inspiration needed to move towards liberation and equity for all.

In our latest blog, Teresa dove deep into the incredible experiences she had and the people she was in community with, and what she learned during her time. Read it now!

Grantee Partner Spotlight: Transformative Leadership for Change

Transformative Leadership for Change is transforming the movement ecosystem by prioritizing the experiences of BIPOC, because "healing is not a choice, it is an imperative." TLC was built by and for BIPOC leaders so they can thrive in their leadership, build real power for their communities and see their visions of liberation come to life. Read more about their work in our latest Grantee Partner Spotlight.
