Dear Community Partner,

Consumer Action will be celebrating its 52nd anniversary on November 2nd with the theme "A Celebration of Service." As part of this special event, we will host a free virtual convening (webinar) that will explore the post-COVID challenges Generation Z is facing and examine practical solutions for helping Gen Zers overcome these obstacles.

After more than three years of disruption and isolation caused by COVID-19, Gen Z—ranging from middle school students to young adult workers—is peering into an uncertain future. Unlike Millennials, who came of age during the Great Recession, Gen Zers were in line to inherit a strong economy with record-low unemployment—until the pandemic altered the U.S. social and economic landscape. Now, instead of looking ahead with optimism to a world of opportunities, Gen Z is facing mental health issues, debt management and financial capability hurdles, and digitization and privacy risks.

The good news: There’s still time to develop practical solutions for better serving young people.

The virtual convening will feature speakers Dr. Leanna Fortunato, director of quality and innovation in the American Psychological Association’s Office of Health Care Innovation; Tiffany Grant, accredited financial counselor and creator/host of the Money Talk with Tiff podcast; and Jordan Marlatt, a lead tech analyst for Morning Consult.

The virtual convening will feature:

An examination of the challenges Generation Z faces
Why Gen Zers are more likely to report mental health concerns, including anxiety and depression, and obstacles to getting mental health services
Financial literacy for Gen Z: why it matters and how we can improve it
A look at why Gen Z is less likely to trust companies, overall, with their data, but feel differently when it comes to social media
How Gen Z’s eager acceptance of AI and the metaverse can put their privacy and mental health at risk
Ways public, private and community-based organizations can work together to create practical solutions to better serve Gen Z
