I know this seems like a lot, but here's how I think about it: 126,673 read the last fundraising email that I wrote to you. Probably the same number of people will read this email. That means that if each person reading this gave just 37?, then we'd have hit our goal then and there. We wouldn't have needed to pepper you with fundraising emails every day. It could have been done and over then and there.

But here's what you have to keep in mind: Not everyone is going to donate. Not everyone is in a financial position where they can donate. That's just reality. We're not going to hide our content behind a paywall or charge extra money for exclusive content the way many other media outlets do. We make all our work available to everyone for free, and we're not going to stop.
