OHIO’S SPECIAL ELECTION IS A BIG WIN FOR DEMOCRACY, AND A PREVIEW TO 2024
Ohio voters decisively rejected a measure that would have made amendments to the state’s constitution more difficult. Tides Foundation’s Healthy Democracy Fund proudly made a $1.875 million grant to the One Person One Vote campaign and a $200,000 grant to Ohio Voice to support their work in defeating the measure. This victory for democracy sets up an important pro-abortion constitutional amendment that Ohioans will vote on this November and a potential measure against gerrymandering in November 2024.

From the devastating wildfires in Maui to the harrowing hurricanes of Louisiana, there is mounting evidence that climate change is the most significant threat facing humanity. In honor of Black Philanthropy Month, Senior Advisor Michelle Mitchell of Tides Center led a discussion with Margot Brown to explore what inspired her to start a collective action fund at Tides Foundation in support of the Frontlines Resources Institute, a nonprofit she founded in partnership with the Environmental Defense Fund in service of community-based organizations advancing climate and environmental justice.
