John,

When it comes to getting around Maine, you can’t always get there from here.

We rely on driving, which can be difficult, expensive, and time-consuming—and which contributes to more than half of Maine’s climate-changing pollution. When we can’t drive—if we’re too young or too old, when the weather’s too bad or the car’s in the shop—limited transit options can leave us stuck.

Maine people deserve cleaner, more affordable ways to get wherever they’re headed —and solutions are on the horizon.

Right now, Northeast states including Maine are working on a plan to create a cleaner, better transportation future. The Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI) could deliver $50-$100 million in new funding to Maine, and unlike the gas tax, which is dedicated to maintaining our existing infrastructure, TCI revenue would be invested in transforming our transportation system.

Imagine a future with reliable transit service, safer places to walk and bike, and cars and trucks that run on clean, affordable electricity instead of expensive, polluting fuel sources — TCI can help make that future a reality.

Right now, TCI is taking input from stakeholders through the form on their website. Submit your comment now to show support for reducing climate pollution from transportation >> [[link removed]]

Here are some ideas to help you write your comment:

* Our outdated transportation system is Maine’s largest source of climate pollution—and it doesn’t even meet the needs of Maine people.

* Maine people deserve clean, modern, affordable transportation options that deliver economic, health, and climate benefits to local communities.

* It makes sense for Maine to work with neighboring states through TCI’s bipartisan, proven policy model.

TCI is only accepting public comments until FRIDAY, [[link removed]] so we must act now to advance this critical initiative. [[link removed]]

Thank you for speaking out.

-Kathleen
