The American Way

Spotlight

On Saturday, People For president, Svante Myrick, had the honor of speaking at the 60th anniversary of the historic March on Washington. Alongside Martin Luther King III, Mrs. Arndrea King, their daughter Yolanda, Rev. Al Sharpton, and other civil rights and progressive leaders, Svante called upon those in attendance and watching at home to continue resisting far-right attempts to erase our history and erode our rights and values. He emphasized that we all contribute to the cause in different ways, but that no matter what we bring to the table, it all helps advance our movement to strengthen the American Way for everyone.

Over 40 years ago People For co-founder Norman Lear set out to defend the American Way from the growing threat of far-right religious extremists and their efforts to divide our nation through hatred and fear. As the same threats are rebranded and repackaged by MAGA Republicans, Norman’s vision for People For becomes even more important in the years ahead.

That’s why People For is proud to have launched a brand-new online store that captures the vision that Norman set out to achieve all those years ago: “that there is reason to believe in the future – not to despair of it – and that we must strengthen the common cords that connect us as humans and citizens.”

Show that you “Still Believe in Norman Lear's America” by purchasing a t-shirt, mug, tote bag, or other item that features designs inspired by the shows that Norman created and that helped shape a generation of Americans to have greater compassion and understanding for one another.

Last week’s Republican presidential debate highlighted the ongoing hold that former President Donald Trump still has over the party and the presidential race. Most of the eight candidates who took the stage that night said they would support the twice-impeached and four times-indicted Trump even if he was found guilty of the charges against him. Perhaps even more troubling, many of the candidates appeared eager to advance the extreme and unpopular agenda the Republican Party has been pushing for years – including a nationwide abortion ban and attacks on other rights and freedoms.

Have Questions About the Trump Indictments? We Have Answers.

With the two most recent indictments likely to be the most consequential for Trump – and our nation – we turned to People For’s senior counsel, Elliot Mincberg, to break down these two indictments and answer some common questions about each of the cases. Please read (and share) the two FAQ guides below:
