Keeping Climate Action in the News
LCV

Just over a year ago, our movement helped to pass the most significant climate legislation in our nation’s history.

The Inflation Reduction Act’s historic investments in climate action included $370 billion in investments for climate solutions, clean energy, and environmental justice, paving the way for the United States to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by the year 2030.

It was a crucial step in accomplishing our climate goals and creating a reliably sustainable future for us and for future generations — but that was just the beginning.

Now, we’re facing nonstop Republican attacks that target the clean energy investments promised in the plan — meaning if we turn our backs for even a moment, we risk putting our whole movement in jeopardy.

Thanks to your support, Friend, LCV has been able to push back on their attacks and keep climate action a reality. In key states and districts across the country, we’ve held community events to increase public awareness and put pressure on lawmakers to move forward with the green revolution.

Our families, communities, and the planet are counting on us — the historic climate bill must be implemented effectively and equitably.

Just take a look at what we’ve accomplished this past summer with your help:

Driving Media Coverage Across the Nation

LCV partnered with state affiliates to raise public awareness about the benefits that workers, families, and communities are already receiving from the investments in the IRA’s affordable clean energy plan. We did this in partnership with our allies by holding press conferences in Maine and placing op-ed’s in states from Georgia to Alaska to North Carolina:

Members of Congress, Clean Energy, and Cake!

LCV and our state affiliates have mobilized members of Congress to share the positive impacts of clean energy investments are already having and the opportunities for constituents to tap into those benefits:
  • In New York: New York LCV’s executive director moderated a town hall with Representative Paul Tonko (D-NY 20) highlighting the consumer benefits created by the IRA’s affordable clean energy plan.
  • In Nevada: Climate Action NV and Nevada Conservation League celebrated the anniversary of the IRA with Senator Jacky Rosen at a local facility that produces steel tubes for solar fields. Senator Rosen toured the business and spoke with the CEO about the ways IRA funding allowed him to open the facility in Nevada.
  • In Pennsylvania: The Climate Action PA team joined environmental partners for a one-year celebration of the IRA with Representative Dwight Evans (D-PA 3). The event highlighted home weatherization, solar energy, jobs, and other community benefits from IRA.
  • And, in Michigan: Michigan LCV joined Representative Hillary Scholten (D-MI 3) and other in-state partners for a press conference followed by cake! Michigan LCV’s regional coordinator spoke at the press conference.

Social Day of Action

To celebrate one year of the historic climate bill, LCV organized a Social Day of Action encouraging members of Congress to use our social media toolkit to uplift its historic climate investments. Over the course of the day, nine members posted on social media, utilizing our graphics and messaging around the climate, clean energy, jobs, and cost-saving benefits of the plan.
