Arguably the biggest political story this past month came from Ohio, when voters turned out in droves in order to reject a thinly-veiled, GOP-backed attempt to make it harder for Ohioans to codify abortion rights in the state’s constitution.

This isn’t the first time a so-called “red state” has voted in favor of pro-democracy, pro-abortion efforts. In fact, since Roe was overturned last summer, six other states have held elections where abortion rights were on the ballot, and the anti-abortion position lost every time.

If there’s one key takeaway from Ohio and these other resounding victories, it’s that when activists and organizers are given the resources they need to rally voters around these important issues, they win every single time.

Whether it’s voting rights or access to reproductive care, folks across the country are unified on these issues — and they will vote to protect them when they are given the opportunity.

Our biggest challenge is making sure communities across our target regions are educated, motivated, and ready to vote when the time comes — because the GOP’s assault on our rights is far from over.
