Thank you to all who participated in the Alaska Housing Summit 2023!
Your support of this event is greatly appreciated. There were around 200 people who joined the hybrid event from across the state. The Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness and Alaska Coalition on Housing and Homelessness will continue to convene events like these and work together to provide equitable, affordable, and accessible housing. Alaska Housing Summit Convenes Cross-Sector Partners to Discuss Affordable Housing Challenges and Solutions
The Alaska Coalition on Housing and Homelessness (an NLIHC state partner) and the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness (an NLIHC member) held an “Alaska Housing Summit” on August 21. The hybrid summit brought together advocates, service providers, funders, policymakers, and other stakeholders to discuss Alaska’s affordable housing challenges and solutions. Panelists reviewed data about Alaska’s housing needs, showcased creative solutions to expand access to affordable housing across the state, and proposed programmatic and policy changes to meet the unique needs of Alaskans. The summit agenda foregrounded the experiences of, and opportunities for, Alaska Native people, who make up nearly 20% of the state’s population and disproportionately experience poverty, housing insecurity, and homelessness.

Trauma 101: September 14 in Anchorage
Trauma 101 training focuses on understanding how trauma impacts the body and the brain, how people adapt to trauma, and what we can do as providers, caregivers and community members to support recovery and resiliency. The Trauma 101 training is not a training on a specific type of intervention, but is focused on how we can use a better understanding of trauma to be trauma-informed.

Compassion, leadership, unity. Those were the essential community elements 40 years ago in 1983 in creating the Brother Francis Shelter for those with no home.
The leadership and compassion for addressing the problem of homelessness began with Anchorage Archbishop Francis Hurley. Hearing of the accomplishments of a couple of brothers in a small order, The Servant Brothers, in Spokane, Washington, Hurley met with Brothers Bob and Dave and invited them to Anchorage to minister to the chronically homeless street people in our city.

Sacramento is focusing on racial equity and centering people who've experienced homelessness
When the community of Sacramento uncovered gaps and disconnects in their homeless response system—mainly related to historically underserved Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color communities—they took action.
The team knew that involving people with experience navigating homelessness who were also members of these underrepresented groups was essential to improving their system.
Darrell Rogers, a native of Sacramento, was the very first partner in the Partners with Lived Expertise Cohort, supported by Sacramento Steps Forward.
“Sharing my experience with a person that never has experienced homelessness gives them a better perspective on how to create and manage those policies."

In particular, the webinar will focus on the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, services for those experiencing homelessness, and sexual health services.
