John,
My name is Steve Dunwoody, and now that Adam Schiff is running for U.S. Senate, I am running to fill his seat in the House of Representatives to continue on his work of working for justice and truth.
My story is a genuinely American story: in the 1950s, my family moved to Detroit for jobs and opportunity away from the cotton fields of the Deep South. I grew up as the son of parents who worked union jobs their entire lives to provide for their family and build a life from practically nothing. Without their incredible hard work and sacrifices, and the benefits fought for and earned by unions, I would not be where I am today.
I’m extremely proud of my roots: when I was in college, I joined the Air National Guard and became the sixth generation of my family to serve our country as a member of the U.S. military. I was deployed to Iraq in 2005, and served under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” during a time when gays in the military were still marginalized and treated as second class citizens.

In 2008, I heard then-Senator Barack Obama speak at a community event and was immediately drawn to his message of hope and change, and his pledge to protect our environment by transitioning away from fossil fuels and to renewable energy. I jumped into the Obama campaign head first and never looked back.
I went on to serve the country once again as a member of the Obama Administration at the White House and the Department of Energy.

I've been a stalwart advocate for our communities right here in California: fighting to lower the cost of prescription drugs alongside Sen. Bernie Sanders, working with the Vet Voice Foundation and the Sierra Club to advocate for the environment and public lands in Southern California, and dedicating my life fighting for climate justice.
And now I want to bring those experiences, and my lifelong passion for public service, to Congress as the next representative for California’s 30th Congressional District.
The people of this district need someone with a proven record of service, someone who shows up to fight, tirelessly, for working families and folks in need, and someone who is a champion for working class values: fairness, equality, and freedom.
I am so proud to be in this race, and would be absolutely honored if you could join me and support our movement to fight for an America that works for everyone:
