John,
We are heartbroken to learn that UNC faculty member Dr. Zijie Yan has died from gun violence, and saddened to read reports from terrified students huddled together on classroom floors as they awaited the all clear. The hard truth is that professors and students in most of the world are safer from gun violence than our professors and students in the United States.
Gun violence terrorizes entire communities. Whether it is people on lock down for hours with limited information about the dangerous situation or people being scared to go outside in impacted communities that experience every day gun violence.
We are fighting against gun violence and for a North Carolina that protects its students, teachers, professors, and all our residents not just through major events but everyday. But we need your help. Sign-up to work alongside us in North Carolina today - [link removed].
We cannot say this enough: this does NOT have to be America’s reality!
Monday’s shooting at UNC Chapel Hill was just one of many in North Carolina just this week—a 62 year old man lost his life to gun violence in Durham last Thursday and NC State A&T University campus in Greensboro witnessed a non-fatal shooting last Friday. Words are simply not enough, we need ACTION to prevent these senseless killings. Please, join us as a volunteer today - [link removed].
Sincerely,
Becky
P.S. Unfortunately, we know all too well that today is not the last hard day ahead and your donations allow our work to continue - [link removed].
