John,
Our movement made history this week.
Two decades ago, President George W. Bush signed a massive handout to Big Pharma corporations, giving them a promise that they could raid Medicare’s trust fund by charging whatever they want for medicines.
This same impulse animates the Medicare privatization movement―letting health care corporations take the money we have paid in with every paycheck, lining the pockets of executives instead of keeping us healthy. Privatized Medicare plans deliver worse outcomes at greater expense―and that’s without taking into account the $75 billion in annual overpayments that these private plans charge.
This week, Joe Biden’s administration turned the tide against corporate health care greed. And he couldn’t have done it without our movement.
Together we dealt Big Pharma the biggest defeat it has ever suffered. Keep up the momentum with a $7 contribution to stop corporate ripoffs of Medicare!
We’re not stopping. The corporate health care industry has been ripping off Medicare for far too long, and it’s about time someone stepped up to defend it.
That’s what Social Security Works exists to do. Generations of Americans have built our Social Security system brick by brick, in the face of corporate greed that has tried to stop them. Greedy corporations have clawed their way into those systems, laying down roots that weaken the structure in the hopes that we will tear it down.
This is an insidious plot half a century in the making. Instead of destroying what our parents and grandparents built, we must recognize the need to tear the corporate greed out at its roots and rededicate ourselves to Social Security and Medicare’s promise of simple, universal benefits.
Together, we’ve sent a clear message to politicians: EXPAND, never cut Social Security and Medicare! Together, we’ll build a system we can proudly leave to the generations who come after us. Donate $7 today!
In solidarity,
Michael Phelan Social Security Works
