With wildfires rampaging again and overdose deaths in the spotlight, making change can feel overwhelming. But big problems aren’t as intimidating when you focus on solutions. Dream.Org has spent the last year pressing federal agencies, championing legislation, and supporting Black & Brown innovators to make sure the billions in Inflation Reduction Act climate funding flows to communities that need it. And we continue pushing for public safety policies that will actually help end the fentanyl epidemic, instead of a new wave of long prison sentences. Focusing on solutions changes lives and gives us the hope to dream of a world beyond wildfires and rampant overdoses.

This Overdose Awareness Day, August 31st, we at Dream.Org will pause to honor, love, and miss those lost to the devastating fentanyl crisis. Tragically, lawmakers are reverting to the age-old playbook of increasing prison sentences rather than advocating for harm reduction and treatment solutions that address the underlying causes of substance abuse disorder. At Dream.Org, our “Public Health is Public Safety” campaign in Kentucky exemplifies the latter approach.
