Jet Fuel
Last week we achieved a major success in our campaign to stop jet fuel reaching the Burmese military.

Airstrikes by the Burmese military have killed hundreds of people and forced hundreds of thousands to flee their homes. Homes, schools and hospitals are being bombed by the Burmese military.

If the jets can’t fly, they can’t bomb. That’s why we are campaigning to cut off supplies of jet fuel.

The USA has now announced that any international companies directly or indirectly involved in the jet fuel industry in Burma could face sanctions.

Basically, the US has put international companies on notice. Stop now or be sanctioned.

This could mean the British insurance companies providing insurance to vessels delivering aviation fuel could be sanctioned. Without insurance, the ships can’t leave port.

It’s a huge step forward.

John Lewis
Last month, UK department store John Lewis announced it would stop buying gems from Burma.

Burma Campaign UK has written to jewellery retailers asking them to make sure the gems they sell have not helped to fund the Burmese military. We will be publishing a report on their responses later this year.
