Path works on the right track at Colwick
colwick paths
We?re really pleased to announce that major improvements to footpaths at Colwick Country Park have now been completed.
The project, paid for by funding secured from the Transforming Cities and European Regional Development Funds, began in September 2022 and has finished ahead of schedule in mid-August.
Colwick Country Park is one of Nottingham?s most beautiful and popular parks, with its large lake, woodland, marina and wildlife areas, and is now more accessible than ever.
The popular walk around the lake became extremely muddy at times particularly during the winter months, making it difficult for visitors, including Colwick parkrunners, and impossible for those using pushchairs, wheelchairs or bikes.
It was planned that the project could add 1.5km of paved footpaths to improve access but the council has now completed more than 4.5k of footpaths using the funding, after seeing the impact and positive feedback that resulted.
The new paths are three metres wide, giving enough room for cyclists, pedestrians, wheelchair and pushchair users to enjoy the park.

Have your say on new waste proposals
waste proposals
Residents living in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire are being encouraged to have their say on a new plan which will encourage waste to be treated as sustainably as possible.
The new Waste Local Plan, replacing the current core strategy which was adopted in 2013, looks ahead to 2038 and aims to ensure that a sufficient range of sites are provided to meet expected future demand for recycling and waste management in the most sustainable way. It is also designed to meet national recycling targets for household waste of 65 per cent and reduce the volume being sent to landfill sites.
The consultation will be open until 11 October, and residents will be able to put forward their views through an online consultation system [ [link removed] ], which is the preferred method, or they can download and complete the representation form and send it electronically via
[email protected] or by post to the Planning Policy Team at County Hall, West Bridgford, Nottingham, NG2 7QP.
Members of the public can find out more about the Waste Local Plan via Nottinghamshire County Council?s website [ [link removed]. ], with hard copies of the document available at select libraries across the city, including Loxley House. These include Aspley, Basford, Bilborough, Bulwell Riverside, Clifton, Dales Centre, Hyson Green, Radford-Lenton, Southglade Park, St Ann?s Valley, Strelley Road and The Meadows.

Paying tribute to Sergeant Graham Saville
We were extremely sad to hear of the death of a Nottinghamshire police officer who lost his life in the line of duty.
Sergeant Graham Saville, who was based at Newark, suffered serious injuries last Thursday in Balderton when he was hit by a train while trying to help a distressed man. He died yesterday at the Queen?s Medical Centre.
This underlines the compassion and bravery shown every day by our emergency services and we offer sincere condolences to Sergeant Saville?s family, friends and colleagues. In line with Nottinghamshire Police, the Council House flag has been lowered to half-mast today.
