Friend, did you see this message?

Today is our founder Jim Brady's birthday. After suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound, Jim made it his unwavering mission to combat and eliminate gun violence for good. That's why we set a goal to get 20,000 responses to our poll, and honor his birthday with action. But according to our records, you haven't responded yet:

With two gun safety advocates in the White House and a strong majority in the Senate, we've put the NRA on notice. But we can't rest until we finally pass the transformative legislation that families are counting on.

Jim Brady never let the gun lobby intimidate or silence him. We can't either. So please, will you answer our poll before 11:59 p.m. tonight to mark Jim's birthday and power the work that he dedicated his life to?

Subject: Will you honor Jim Brady with action?

Friend,

Today would have been our founder, Jim Brady’s, 83rd birthday. He was a gun violence survivor who dedicated his life to addressing our nation’s gun violence epidemic.

Jim and his wife Sarah's lifelong commitment to this work continues to guide us to this day. It's incredibly moving to see that this grassroots team shares the same respect and gratitude for his legacy.

In order to honor Jim Brady's birthday, we've set a goal to get 20,000 responses on our survey. But we're still 5,000 responses short and I noticed you haven't responded yet. Please, if you share Jim's dream of a country free from gun violence, will you respond to our survey by midnight tonight?

Do you think Congress should ban assault weapons?

After he was permanently paralyzed from a gunshot wound, Jim dedicated the rest of his life to ending gun violence. He and Sarah spent years pushing Congress to pass the Brady Bill, creating the background check system we still use today. When the bill finally became law, Jim knew that our work had only just begun. He continued to lead this fight until he passed away in 2014, as a result of lifelong complications from his gunshot wound.

Jim and Sarah's legacy has inspired so many Americans, and here at Brady we work to unite those families, communities, and leaders who are ready to stand up to the gun lobby. We elected two gun safety advocates to the White House, we defended our gun safety majority in the Senate, and, last year, we successfully passed the most meaningful package of gun safety reforms in decades.

But the gun lobby still has an army of bought and paid for politicians at their command in Washington. To finally win universal background checks, an assault weapons ban, and safe communities for all of us, we must continue this fight.

So please, before our deadline at 11:59 p.m. tonight, will you honor Jim's legacy with action and respond to our survey?
