My good friends at NewDem Action Fund suggested I reach out because my special election in RI-01’s primary is just days away. In a moment, I’m going to personally ask you to split $5 or whatever you can to my race and NewDem Action Fund before my critical end-of-month deadline. But first, I want to share my story and explain why I'm asking for your support.

When I was growing up in the Dominican Republic, I never imagined that the American dream would allow me to become the President of the Providence City Council, or Lieutenant Governor – let alone have the opportunity to become the first Afro-Latina in Congress.

I came to this country when I was 20 without knowing any English. Those first few years were tough on all of us, but I took my parents’ values of hard work, determination, and persistence to learn the language, go to college, start a family, and dedicate my career to public service.

Now, nearly three decades later, I’ve gone from working on factory floors to being the first Afro-Latina to hold statewide office in Rhode Island. Now, I have the opportunity to make history again, as the first Afro-Latina ever elected to Congress. I owe everything to my family and supporters like you.

That’s why I’m humbly asking: will you split $5 or whatever you can between my campaign and NewDem Action Fund to help me reach our end-of-month goal, keep RI-01 blue, and make history once again?
