Congressman Al Green Introduces H.R. 5223 – the Original Open for Business Act of 2023 – to Address the Need for Customer Friendly Banking Hours 

(Washington, D.C.) — On Friday, August 18, 2023, Congressman Al Green took a proactive step towards enhancing access to banking services by introducing H.R. 5223 – the Original Open for Business Act of 2023. 

Under this legislation, banks with in-person customer service would be required to remain open on at least one weekday for business until 7:00 p.m. Additionally, under this legislation, a minimum of 4 hours of service must be offered on Saturdays, excluding federal holidays. House Resolution 5223 seeks to accommodate the needs of working individuals and families, ensuring they have ample time to conduct their banking activities.

Congressman Green stated, “The impetus for H.R. 5223 is the need for greater banking flexibility and accessibility for all members of our community. By making their hours more flexible, banks can better serve the needs of our constituents and contribute to their financial well-being.”
