Like many Americans, you probably felt that last month was a bit warmer than usual. July obviously brings some of the hottest days of the year, but this one was different. It was record breaking.

NASA has officially announced that July was the hottest month on record since 1880. In fact, it was over 2 degrees warmer than the average July temperature between 1951 and 1980.

To make matters worse, this is merely the continuation of a deeply troubling trend. According to NASA data, the five hottest Julys since 1880 have all happened in the past five years.

Friends, climate change is here, and our window to take meaningful action to address it is closing fast. That’s why it’s vital we support members of Congress like Lori who’ve been working to tackle this threat head on.

The sweltering heat isn’t the only sign that we’re heading towards a climate crisis. Rising sea levels are rapidly endangering coastal communities, and extreme weather events are becoming more frequent in places they don’t usually occur. For example, Southern California was just hit by the first tropical storm to make landfall in the area in 84 years.
