PLANNED PARENTHOOD
For over a decade, the Affordable Care Act (also known as the ACA or Obamacare) has expanded health coverage for millions of people. Before the ACA, insurance plans didn't have to cover basic preventive health care, including breast cancer screenings, Pap tests, and birth control — or if they did, they could charge people out-of-pocket costs for it.

The ACA was a game-changer for patients, including the tens of millions of people who finally got insurance coverage for birth control without having to pay copays or deductibles. Before the ACA expanded health coverage, how much do you think people had to pay for birth control?

Take a guess:
Before the Affordable Care Act, what percentage of women's* out-of-pocket health care spending went to contraception?
0% - 10%
11% - 20%
21% - 30%
More than 30%
*Women, trans men, and nonbinary people all use birth control. This statistic uses the gender terminology used by the researchers.

We love to see expanded access to sexual and reproductive health care — every barrier to care we tear down makes life better for patients. A recent big win? The FDA's approval of Opill, the first over-the-counter birth control pill.

This kind of progress never comes easy. It took years to win FDA approval for Opill. Just like it took years to make birth control more affordable nationwide.

Birth control is essential care, and millions of people depend on Planned Parenthood health centers to provide it. As lawmakers seek to restrict access to reproductive health care across the country, Planned Parenthood will continue to fight to protect and expand access for patients.

We can create more wins like these. We can change the landscape of reproductive health care and put patients first. Thank you for being a part of this movement.

Sincerely,
