Friend,
The news anchors on MSNBC have compared Bernie Sanders to Stalin, and
even suggested that Bernie would have "cheered" for "executions in
Central Park."
This morning, despite an avalanche of criticism, MSNBC's Joe Scarborough
doubled down, this time suggesting that Bernie Sanders was a fan of
Benito Mussolini.
"That's like saying Mussolini had the trains running. 'Have you seen the
trains?' While people are up on meat hooks all lined up behind the
train," Scarborough said in response to Sanders's comments about Cuba's
literacy programs.
The corporate media's smears of Bernie Sanders are out of control—and no
one benefits more than Donald Trump.
Common Dreams is the nonprofit, independent answer to the corporate
media—and we rely on your donations to power our journalism. Will you
donate to help us reach our goal of $70,000 by March 1?

MSNBC has tried to brand itself as the liberal alternative to Fox News
to boost ratings. But MSNBC is owned by Comcast, a corporation that has
given hundreds of millions to Republicans and corporate Democrats and
spent even more on lobbying in favor of tax cuts for the rich and
against antitrust enforcement, net neutrality, and municipal broadband.
The closer we get to November, the more these attacks are sure to
continue, as the corporate media unloads on Sanders and any other
candidate who dares challenge their massive power by supporting policies
like Medicare for All and a wealth tax.
But the corporate media is so terrified of someone who will challenge
their power that they are resorting to desperate Cold War-era red
baiting, even if that means four more years of Donald Trump.
At Common Dreams, we take no corporate advertising and we have no
corporate board dictating our coverage. But we're still $37,000 short of
our Winter Fundraising Campaign goal. Will you donate today?
Yes, I'll donate to help support Common Dreams.
