John , there’s been a frightening development in the fight to keep our communities safe from gun violence. The Supreme Court could overturn a federal law that prohibits individuals with domestic violence restraining orders from possessing firearms.

The idea of allowing people who are under restraining orders to obtain a firearm makes me sick to my stomach. It makes me think about all the victims of abuse out there who are living in fear. We need to be standing up for them - not their abusers! Make no mistake – vulnerable people will suffer if SCOTUS sides with the Republicans.

Domestic violence offenders have been barred from possessing guns for decades, and for good reason. Guns are used in the vast majority of all intimate partner homicides in the United States. Approximately 600 women are shot to death by intimate partners every year.

This is just another example of Republicans pushing their own extremist agendas at the expense of the rest of us. I will do everything in my power to fight against dangerous legislation like this.

It’s imperative we continue building Democratic political power in Washington D.C. so we can stand up against these attacks on our communities.
