Dear Friend,
As your Attorney General, I take protecting our kids–including addressing the teen mental health crisis–very seriously, as I discussed recently on the Colorado Point of View TV program [[link removed]] .
In Colorado, for example, the vaping epidemic is a major public health threat to our teens. When we took action against JUUL, Colorado had the top youth vaping rate in the nation. We have held JUUL accountable—and now Colorado will have almost $32 million to invest in cessation and prevention programs, including those tied to teen mental health. I recently talked about this lawsuit on NPR’s Here and Now program [[link removed]] .
A significant driver of the teen mental health crisis is the use of social media. Studies have consistently shown that these platforms use addictive techniques and algorithms to keep young people on them as long as possible even though the impacts are harmful. We must hold these companies accountable. That’s why I am leading a bipartisan investigation into TikTok and Meta’s conduct, and I am committed to exposing and remedying any harm they have caused (and continue to cause) children and teens. You can learn more about this work and other efforts spearheaded by our office to address teen mental health here [[link removed].] .
Thanks for helping me continue to serve the people of Colorado.
Phil
