VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump gets nightmare news in DC criminal trial
US District Judge Chutkan has officially set the disgraced ex-president's DC criminal trial for March 4, 2024 — the day before Super Tuesday — meaning that there's a solid chance Trump could be convicted and even imprisoned before the general election.
Take Action: Don’t let Trump delay his criminal trials!
Mark Meadows testifies that actions laid out in Georgia indictment were simply part of his job
In a shocking roll of the legal dice, Mark Meadows preemptively put himself on the stand during pre-trial motions in a desperate attempt to...convince a judge that participating in a wildly illegal and extremely clumsy conspiracy to overthrow our democracy with a crackpot team of America's worst lawyers and ideological sociopaths was somehow "part of the job" of being chief of staff to the president. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
Take Action: Stop the racist, sexist attacks on Trump's prosecutor!

Trump spreads "roomer" that DeSantis plans to drop out of 2024 race
Days after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis inexplicably saw the most minor of bumps in his poll numbers following the first Republican primary debate, Trump lashed out on Truth Social in a typo-riddled post, claiming without evidence that "Ron DeSanctimonious, whose Presidential run is a shambles" intends to end his campaign and pivot to a US Senate run instead. The governor's team quickly denied the allegation...though it's only a matter of time before this "roomer" becomes "reallyality."

Pope says "backward" American conservatives have replaced faith with ideology
Marking his bluntest criticisms to date of Republicans, Pope Francis condemned the "very strong, organized, reactionary attitude” that pervades the American branch of the Catholic church. Francis warned that such "backward" people are becoming "closed off" and "disconnected from the roots of the church." Unfortunately, several of these Catholic reactionaries actually sit on the Supreme Court, making deranged theocratic decisions that affect us all.

Eminem has had enough, sends cease and desist to Vivek Ramaswamy
The Trumpiest candidate outside of Donald himself drew headlines recently for performing a deeply embarrassing rendition of the iconic Detroit rapper's hit song "Lose Yourself" at a campaign stop in Iowa. Eminem, who has been a brutal critic of Donald Trump for years, apparently did not appreciate his music being exploited by a would-be fascist and cringey loser and has officially sent a cease and desist letter to Vivek. All things considered, he might be doing Ramaswamy a favor. Nobody wants to see or hear that again.

Biden takes high road with DeSantis, approves hurricane declaration
Striking a sharp contrast to Trump's preferred policy of only helping states that voted for him, President Biden is doing everything in his power to prepare Florida for yet another potentially devastating hurricane. He put aside partisan considerations to speak with DeSantis directly and issued an official emergency declaration, greenlighting the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate disaster relief efforts in over 30 counties ahead of Idalia's landfall. Interestingly, Biden resisted the urge to point out that extreme weather events like Hurricane Idalia are growing in intensity and frequency in part due to the Republican Party's disastrous energy policies and steadfast refusal to even acknowledge that climate change is real.

Michigan Republicans elected an election denier as their new leader and she's coming for our voting rights
Promote the Vote: Kristina Karamo is the new leader of Michigan's GOP, and when it comes to attacks on truth and our rights, she's giving Trump a run for his money. With no evidence, she claims there is illegal voting that cost her an election last year and blames “left-wing anarchists” for... well... everything. She has no business leading a major state party, and she is a threat to voting rights in Michigan and beyond. Fortunately, the group, Promote the Vote, is doing the work to ensure that our voting rights remain sacred and secure — but they can't do it alone. Can you chip in a few bucks to ensure they have the resources to protect election integrity in the key swing state?
California sues school district over controversial anti-trans policy
A southern California school district that passed a deeply dangerous policy that forces teachers to “out” transgender students to their parents is being sued by Attorney General Rob Bonta because the new policy violates state law and could cause, “mental, emotional, psychological, and potential physical harm,” to LGBTQ+ students. The policy, which the school board approved last month, requires educators to notify parents if a student changes their name or pronoun, asks to use a different bathroom, or asks to play on a differently gendered sports team. Copycat policies have been proposed by other right-leaning school districts in southern California, prompting Bonta to issue warning letters to their boards.
Wisconsin Supreme Court's conservative chief justice pitches fit after liberal majority weakens her powers
Conservative Chief Justice Annette Ziegler told the new liberal majority in a scathing email that they had staged a “coup” and conducted an “illegal experiment” when they voted to weaken her powers and fire the director of state courts. Justice Rebecca Dallet, one of the court's four liberals, promptly responded, stating, "We are simply creating process so that a majority of the court can effectively work in the face of an intransigent and uncollegial chief who apparently insists on a public debate about issues for political purposes, rather than allow a court majority to function as it always has." Shots fired!
Hawaii power utility takes responsibility for first fire on Maui, but faults county firefighters
Hawaiian Electric Company begrudgingly acknowledged its power lines started a wildfire on Maui but then had the nerve to blame county firefighters for declaring the blaze contained and leaving the scene, only to have a second wildfire break out nearby and become the deadliest in the US in more than a century.
Walt Disney Pictures VFX workers move to unionize
The great American labor wave grows stronger. A supermajority of visual effects employees at Walt Disney Studios signed authorization cards signaling their desire to unionize and filed with the National Labor Relations Board to hold formal elections. This most-welcomed news comes as greedy Hollywood executives are already weathering ongoing strikes from both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA.
