John, the Supreme Court has an ethics problem.
All summer, we’ve seen scandal after scandal from our highest court, with billionaires and megadonors funding everything from luxury vacations to family members’ tuition.
But with no enforceable code of conduct demanding better, justices have free rein to benefit from wealthy donors’ largesse – while our democracy and the public’s trust in our highest court pay the true cost.
The Senate has just advanced a major Supreme Court ethics bill out of committee – so we’re calling on Congress to finish the job. Sign the petition: Congress must pass the strongest possible Supreme Court code of conduct >>
John, it’s absurd that Supreme Court justices – unlike every other federal judge – aren’t officially bound by a code of conduct governing their ethics.
These nine justices make decisions that affect millions of people every day. Even the possibility for anything but the pursuit of law and justice to factor into their decisions needs to be nipped in the bud.
Every day these ethical scandals go unaddressed, they chip away at the public’s trust in the Supreme Court and our democracy as a whole. That’s why Common Cause has spent decades calling for ethics in government – and why we won’t stop until our highest court is held to the highest ethical standards.
The Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act would finally create binding ethical standards for the Court. Congress must act now to pass this crucial bill.
Tell Congress to pass a Supreme Court code of conduct now.
We deserve courts that are fair, impartial, and independent – not driven by personal biases or financial incentives. I’m glad to have you with us.
Thanks for all you do,
