Readers have very strong feelings about the impeachment of Attorney General Ken Paxton. We'll get to those below.

Child Gender Mutilation Ban Set to Go Into Effect Despite LawsuitDespite a Travis County district judge ruling in favor of the ACLU of Texas’ lawsuit against a Texas law banning child gender mutilation, the measure is set to go into effect at the beginning of next month while the state appeals to the Texas Supreme Court.

Emily Medeiros reports [[link removed]] District Judge Maria Cantù Hexsel of the 53rd District Court of Travis County granted a preliminary injunction, which would temporarily allow children to continue to access gender-mutilative surgeries and cross-sex hormones.

Hexsel claimed that families with gender-confused children will suffer "irreparable harm" due to the new law set to take effect September 1. The state has maintained that allowing children to access these life-altering drugs and procedures harms their well-being, as their brains are not fully developed to weigh the risks.

Hours after the decision was released, the Office of the Attorney General appealed to the Texas Supreme Court, a move that automatically freezes the lower court’s injunction. Richardson ISD Wins Grant to Promote ‘LGBTQ+ Identity’ in Schools

Richardson Independent School District, in North Texas, applied for and received a grant to promote “LGBTQ+ identity” in its schools. Erin Anderson has the details. [[link removed]]

The district won the grant from the It Gets Better Project, a nonprofit organization with a mission to “uplift, empower, and connect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth around the globe.”

Richardson ISD is using the grant money to revive its on-campus Gay-Straight Alliance club, now known as the Gender & Sexuality Alliance (GSA).

Richardson’s Pearce High School lists a GSA club as a “place for LGBTQ+ students and allies to meet and discuss current events, school events and to have fun and feel safe.”

Meanwhile, the district is rated a “B” by the Texas Education Agency. Just half of the students perform at grade level across all subjects.

Austin and Houston Going Meat-Free By 2030?

Two Texas cities are participating in an emissions-cutting program that seeks to end meat and dairy consumption.

As Sydnie Henry reports [[link removed]], according to the organization, “C40 is a global network of nearly 100 mayors of the world’s leading cities that are united in action to confront the climate crisis.”

Although largely funded by Democrat billionaire Michael Bloomberg, other donors include FedEx, Google, and the Clinton Foundation. Both Austin and Houston are listed as participating cities.

In a recent report by C40, they lay out "ambitous targets" ...including the elimination of meat and dairy consumption by the year 2030.

The report also set the goal of alloting each citizen three new clothing items per year. There would not be any private vehicles.

While C40 claims they are not advocating for the "wholesale adoption" of these goals, some cities have begun to follow suit. New York City recently announced that it’s limiting how much meat and dairy are served by city schools and prisons.

Texas DPS Officer Sounds Alarm on Border Invasion

As the border crisis continues, a Texas Department of Public Safety officer is calling on Texans to keep their eyes on the southern border.

Katy Marshall reports [[link removed]] that Lt. Christopher Olivarez told KDFW TV that law enforcement experiences between 5,000 and 6,000 illegal alien encounters a day along the border—including with potentially violent gunmen.

“Armed gunmen has been something that is starting to become more common, even armor piercing rounds,” said Olivarez. “Most recently, we actually encountered two gunmen working with Border Patrol and the Texas game wardens. And they were actually in possession of an M-4 rifle, which is a military grade rifle and also an AK-47. And they had armor piercing rounds, rounds that can penetrate our bulletproof vests.”

According to recent numbers released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, 183,503 illegal aliens were encountered at the border in July. The number of encounters has risen by almost 40,000 from June, which saw 144,566 encounters.

Last month, Gov. Greg Abbott installed buoy barriers to take action where the Biden administration has lagged and “deter illegal border crossings between ports of entry.” The buoys have led to lawsuits by a local business owner and the Department of Justice, claiming they will cause irreparable harm.

Dan Patrick Appoints New Counsel for Paxton Impeachment Trial

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has appointed new legal counsel [[link removed]] for himself in the upcoming impeachment trial of Attorney General Ken Paxton. This comes after Patrick’s previous choice declined the offer, following revelations of his long-standing relationships with those pushing the impeachment.

On Monday, Patrick—who will preside over the Senate's trial—appointed Justice Lana Myers to the position. Myers previously served as a Justice on the Texas Fifth Court of Appeals from 2009-2022.

Patrick’s previous choice, Justice Marc Brown, declined [[link removed]] the role just one day following his announcement earlier this month after campaign finance records revealed he had received campaign contributions [[link removed]] from House investigators and impeachment prosecutors. Additionally, he had contributed to former Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman in her 2022 primary challenge to Paxton.

The legal team representing Attorney General Ken Paxton has asked the Texas Senate to dismiss the impeachment charges for a variety of reasons when the trial begins on Tuesday, Sept. 5. As expected, the House impeachment managers object and want senators to kick Paxton out of office.

Yesterday, we asked readers if the Senate should dismiss the impeachment charges against Attorney General Ken Paxton: 90.8 percent said they wanted the impeachment charges dismissed, while 9.2 percent believe the trial should proceed.
