Hello friend,
Typically, the emails you receive from me are about what we’re doing in the District to advocate for more housing, more affordable housing, better public transit, fewer trips by car, and fairer land-use laws—and how you can participate in those efforts.
That’s often by doing things like sending an email to your councilmembers, asking them to vote yes on legislation that will make traveling on our roads safer. Or, sending in a comment to the zoning commission in support of a decision that could change, for the better, the way that development happens in the District. Or, by voting for candidates who we feel will take action on our issues when in office. Or, even, by becoming a candidate yourself and running for an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner seat.
I am consistently so excited that our supporters jump into the wider world of D.C. development, housing, transportation, and the associated politics. Every time you show up, you make it clear that there’s a serious, thoughtful, and active constituency for more homes and for a District where it’s safe to travel by any mode.
I can’t thank you enough for doing so. I feel insanely lucky every day that I even get to observe that happening—and be a part of it. That it’s my job to do so is a result of you not just showing up for our issues, but showing up for us .
GGWash’s most valuable financial support comes from our individual donors, whose contributions are the bedrock of our budget—they’re consistent, resilient, and sturdy, and provide a foundation on which we can build a greater GGWash. Your monthly, yearly, or one-time donations allow our tiny-but-prolific staff to show up for you . I do my best to understand the complexities inherent in, say, acquiring public land to produce more housing and more affordable housing, or building more bus-priority projects, so that I can, in turn, share with you where your votes, comments, emails, and candidacies can make a true difference.
By the end of August, we are hoping to grow our roster of recurring donors by 65. If that’s something you’re able to afford and would like to do, please join us today [[link removed]] .

Working at GGWash is a joy, largely because I get to, in many ways, work with you. Even if you aren’t able to contribute to this campaign, know that we value your presence in our space, and in D.C., immensely. You might also like to join us at our annual Fall Mixer [[link removed]] on Wed., Sept. 27 at Metrobar (tickets start at $30), or at our upcoming Ward 1.5 happy hour [[link removed]] on Sun., Sept. 10 from 3-5 p.m. at Grand Duchess (free!).
Thank you for being here, and always feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] [[email protected]] if you have any questions, comments, or thoughts about GGWash’s advocacy work, especially in the District.
Thank you,
Alex
