John—
We just heard President Donald Trump say he would take action after the shootings in El Paso and Dayton to stamp out hate. Let's be clear on a few things:
This is not about mental health. This is not about video games. These are NRA talking points.
This is about easy access to guns.
We went down this road with the president after the shooting in Parkland. If he really wants "bipartisan and effective" solutions to end gun violence, he should call Senate Majority Leader McConnell today and tell him to pass background checks on all gun sales and strong Red Flag legislation.
TELL SEN. MCCONNELL AND YOUR SENATORS TO ACT
90 percent of Americans want gun safety laws, and the president has had two and a half years to do it. The Senate has had the chance to act for over 200 days — that's how long ago the House passed common-sense gun safety legislation.
President Trump has promised to act, but action without critical legislation to address easy access to guns will do nothing to address gun violence. He has vowed to pass meaningful gun legislation in the past, and yet he has failed to do so. He has vowed to address hate and violence, and yet has used racist and anti-immigrant rhetoric while hate-fueled violence continues. He has opted to blame violent video games and mental health issues — talking points straight from the NRA — rather than focusing on solutions that are proven to work.
We need to demand action and hold President Trump accountable. Tell Sen. McConnell and your Senators to pass background checks on all gun sales, and a strong Red Flag law that will help prevent gun violence tragedies.
No more politics. No more tweets. It's time for action. We need lifesaving gun laws now.
Thank you for taking action.
