Please read this letter from Zelda, a farmer on the frontlines of the climate
and hunger crisis.
 

I'm Zelda, and six years ago, I planted a seed of hope in Marobjane, South
Africa — a small-scale farm. Today, it's grown into 100 hectares, nurtured by a
dedicated team of 10 from my community.



Passion and a connection to the land fuels me, but challenges weigh heavy —
erratic weather, blackouts, water scarcity. As conditions grow more difficult,
I am kept awake worrying over our future.



That is why I am joining Global Citizen’s open letter for immediate aid to
farmers and communities at the forefront of a mounting food and climate crisis.



Next week, we will start handing this letter over to leaders across Africa.
Their support now is vital to help smallholder farmers thrive, children stay
fed, and thousands of communities to flourish.
