A NOTE FROM CHRISSY

Lately, I’ve been getting asked if the federal government is going to shut down in October. The federal government’s fiscal year runs from October to September and, as is common, there is much disagreement about what programs should be funded and at what levels. What’s less common is that Republicans have a five seat majority and are unable to pass legislation without the support of the most extreme members of their party. And, they are currently unwilling to work with Democrats on a compromise. How does this end if Representative Chip Roy wants to defund entire federal agencies and Senator Tommy Tuberville wants a national abortion ban? We have our work cut out for us when Congress reconvenes after Labor Day.

Defending our LGBTQ Community

You know that when it comes to commonsense compromise, I’m the first to the table. But recently, Republicans, in an unprecedented procedural move, cut nearly $4 million from community support for housing and other resources for LGBTQ Americans. Almost $1 million of that was from Reading, PA in my district. Alongside my team and other members of Congress, I fought back. We haven’t won yet but we persevere.

Improving the Lives of our Veterans

As a third-generation veteran, I’m particularly sensitive about the support we offer to those who have given so much to our country. Veterans shouldn’t struggle alone with issues such as food insecurity or access to health and child care – and that’s why I’ve been pushing the envelope in our House Armed Services Committee’s Quality of Life Panel to offer veterans more.

My 75th Town Hall

It’s hard to believe that I hosted my 75th town hall in July. That’s a lot of town halls! We covered a variety of issues that are top of mind to the community of Coatesville including big improvements to health care services. I was joined by colleagues from the Coatesville VA, Chester County Hospital, and the West Chester Veterans Council to discuss the Penn Medicine partnership with the Coatesville VA Medical Center and other topics.

I’m so grateful you’ve been by my side as I work to serve our community. Trust me: there’s plenty more to do. But, when I have supporters like you by my side, I’m empowered to fight for what is right for every single Pennsylvanian.

There’s more than enough work to be done,

-Chrissy
