My Sisters and Brothers, today marks the 60-year anniversary of the historic March on Washington.

The demands we called for on August 28, 1963 are not so different from what we call for today: voting rights, fair wages, and real equality for every American. Now, six decades after 250,000 Americans marched in support of equality for all, the current GOP has sought to bitterly divide us on which version of history we teach today’s students.

At a time when white extremism is on a sharp rise across our nation, we must continue to rise up and make our voices heard, rejecting their agenda and their propaganda. And we must double our efforts, ensuring that the American dream is achievable for everyone! The legacy of the March on Washington carries on through us, and we will not be silenced!
