Hi, John, it's Congresswoman Delia Ramirez. |
Let's get some of the basics out of the way, John.
My name is Delia Ramirez, and I've been honored to represent Illinois' 3rd District in Congress. I'm the first Latina from the Midwest to be elected to Congress, and I'm the only member between both chambers to come from a mixed-status household.
My parents are Luis and Maria Ramirez, who immigrated here from Guatemala over forty years ago and who have made incredible sacrifices so my siblings and I could succeed.
Early on, they taught me the value of helping people in your community, as we often volunteered at our church's shelter and food pantry. Since, I've worked hard to uplift our voices, first as an organizer, and then later as a representative in the Illinois House. |
Now that I've been in Congress for over seven months, I've built a reputation as a strong advocate for what really matters to our residents – comprehensive immigration reform, affordable housing, and caring for our veterans. |
Thank you, Congresswoman Delia Ramirez |
