Dear Fourth District Constituent,

You're invited to join me virtually on Thursday, September 7, for an update about the important work ahead in Washington.

My top priority is avoiding a government shutdown.

Republicans controlling the U.S. House adjourned in July, leaving town for six weeks without completing the basic job of funding the government. Now just 12 working days remain for Congress to pass legislation required to keep the government open. This is unacceptable, but not surprising after months of chaos since Republicans took control.

Thanks to the leadership of Democrats in Congress last year working with President Biden, the American economy is healthy and resilient. In Minnesota and across the country, wages are rising and the unemployment rate remains at a historic low. More than 13 million jobs have been created during President Biden’s first term and under the leadership of the Biden-Harris administration, Democrats are strengthening the economy and growing our nation’s middle class. 

Unfortunately, House Republicans are determined to destabilize the economy, undo this progress, and veer towards a government shutdown in order to dictate ransom demands and force their extreme social agenda onto the American people.

My fellow Democrats and I are going to continue to focus on what matters – delivering for families and building an economy that works for all Americans.
