Last week, domestic workers across the country gathered, ready to make change.

John,

We just wrapped up our 2020 Assembly in Las Vegas, and with over 1,000 domestic workers in attendance, it was one of our best and most moving events ever.

Here are some of the highlights from our weekend of dignity, unity, and power:

Attendees at NDWA Assembly 2020

Thousands of nannies, house cleaners, and home care workers attended presentations and workshops that helped them feel both the significance of the power we have built, and the promise of the power we will build. We heard from inspiring speakers, like:

  • Yalitza Aparicio, the Oscar-nominated star of Roma, who shared how we can harness the power of storytelling to transform the way the world sees domestic work;
  • Rep. Pramila Jayapal, the co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and original co-sponsor of the federal Domestic Workers Bill of Rights, who presented with me about how we can pass that vital bill into law, and win stronger protections for domestic workers across the country;
  • Cecile Richards, the cofounder of Supermajority and former president of Planned Parenthood, who gave a rousing call to action for women to use the power we have to win change in the 2020 elections and beyond.

We have so much to accomplish this year. And with supporters like you on our side, we are energized and ready to take on the world.

In unity,

Ai-jen Poo, Executive Director
National Domestic Workers Alliance
