I was just on MSNBC to announce the launch of Leaders We Deserve, an organization I co-founded to elect young people to office to make real change in Congress and State Legislatures across the country.

Here’s why:

After the Parkland shooting, people told us that young people would never be able to create meaningful change. But Gen Z defied the odds and their expectations.

We stood up in record numbers to change dangerous gun laws in Florida, register tens of thousands of voters, and elect the youngest member, Maxwell Frost, to Congress.

But we can’t stop there.

We have to continue fighting to build a better future for the next generation.

That’s why I’m proud to announce Leaders We Deserve is partnering with Ban Assault Weapons NOW! Together we can elect young gun safety candidates up and down the ballot who are committed to banning assault weapons and ending gun violence once and for all. I’ll tell you what I told MSNBC:

My generation, the school shooting generation, has been taught our entire lives to Run, Hide, and Fight to survive school shooters.

It’s time our generation repurposes that.

We need to start running for office.

We need to stop hiding from the responsibility that we have to protect future generations.

And we need to start fighting to fix our broken political system.

Because just voting is not enough.

The truth is gun-lobby-backed Republicans are outraising and out-investing us in races up and down the ballot – and the impacts are painfully obvious.

They are working to REPEAL life-saving laws put in place following the Parkland massacre, even though 2023 is on track to set the record for the most mass shootings in a decade.

They RUSHED dangerous permitless carry bills into law, enabling more untrained and unchecked people to carry hidden, loaded guns in public.

And they’ve REFUSED, time and time again, to offer anything other than empty “thoughts and prayers” to those left behind in the wake of these entirely preventable slaughters.

But I’ll be honest: Change isn’t going to happen in Washington, D.C., until it happens in your state, too.

That’s why I’m so proud to partner with Ban Assault Weapons NOW! to further our mission to elect leaders we deserve across the country. Now, I’m reaching out to ask you to join our movement too.
