Officials say massive Louisiana refinery fire mostly contained, but residents worry about air quality
Crews were still working to suppress flare-ups Saturday from a massive fire at a Louisiana oil refinery that burned for a second day along the banks of the Mississippi River. Thousands of residents were ordered to evacuate over the weekend as the plume of black smoke could be seen from outer space. Marathon Petroleum claimed that tests found “non-detectable air quality impacts” from the massive fire, which is precisely the sort of thing you'd expect them to say. The state Department of Environmental Quality and a third-party contractor are currently conducting additional tests.
