Introduced Legislation to Expand Access to Pension Plans for NC First Responders

Last week, with the support of all House Republicans in North Carolina, I introduced legislation to provide greater access to pension plans for North Carolina first responders.

This bill would amend the Internal Revenue Code to include full-time nonprofit firefighters and emergency medical service (EMS) workers in governmental pension plans. Currently, full-time nonprofit emergency providers are not eligible to participate in North Carolina’s pension plan due to federal law.

North Carolinians depend on the selfless service of first responders every single day. It is only fitting that these dedicated individuals should be able to depend on the government to provide them with a reliable retirement plan when their call to service comes to an end.

August District Work Period

For a few more weeks, Members of Congress will continue to be back in our districts for our extended work period. During this time, I have been traveling across NC-03 to visit with constituents, local businesses, our military installations, and community stakeholders. It's a pleasure to be back home to listen to your concerns about the latest issues impacting our communities.

Visit to Fleet Readiness Center East

It was a pleasure to visit Fleet Readiness Center East at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in Havelock to tour the facility and be briefed on current operations at the depot.

FRC East is one of six centers in the country tasked with refurbishing military aircraft, such as the F-35 Lightning II, V-22 and other types of aircraft, and is one of the largest among them. It’s also one of the largest employers east of I-95 in North Carolina.

I’m pleased to continue advocating for their military construction projects which will hopefully also expand into the Global Transpark. Such will ensure FRC-East will provide thousands of quality jobs in Eastern North Carolina for many years to come.

Visit to Gregory Poole Equipment Company

I had a great time visiting Gregory Poole Equipment Company in Washington for a tour. I had a chance to get up close to the equipment, interact with the workforce, and take time to listen to the challenges that the industry is facing. 

Visit to Beaufort County Sheriff's Office

It was wonderful to meet with Sheriff Hammonds and the dedicated staff of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office. I'm grateful that law and order is respected in Eastern North Carolina and that we have good people keeping us safe. Thank you so much for your service

Fresenius Medical Care Dialysis Facility

As a board-certified urologic surgeon of over 30 years, it was a privilege to stop by the Fresenius Medical Care Dialysis Facility in New Bern to check out the services they are providing to the community.

Sadly, the need for kidney dialysis grows every day. We have more and more individuals, as they age with obesity, hypertension, diabetes, as well as other diseases that lead to kidney failure. A good part of which can be prevented through diet and proper medication. Doctors can only do so much. Patients need to take control of their health and lead healthy lives.

Visit to North Carolina Global TransPark

I'm grateful to NC Global TransPark for hosting me to meet with their team and Lenoir County officials. I appreciate the services they provide to support the manufacturing and logistics needs of the aviation, aerospace, defense, emergency response and advanced materials industries.

Visit to NC-03 Farms

I visited several farms across NC-03 to hear about their priorities in this year’s Farm Bill and the challenges their industry is facing. Agribusiness is essential to Eastern North Carolina’s economy and for feeding the rest of the nation.
