Friend,
My late wife, Lina, and I founded Common Dreams in 1997, and because we’ve been around so long, some folks assume we’ll always be here.
Let me be as clear as possible: This assumption is wrong. And the moment our readers take us for granted and assume they don’t have to help support us, we’re cooked.
There have been many times over the years when we sincerely thought we might not have enough money to make it to the next quarter, the next month, or even the next day. And right now is one of the most challenging times we’ve ever seen for independent journalism.
Donations are down. Costs are up. Big Tech is suppressing legitimate news in news feeds. Hardly a day goes by that we don’t hear about another digital news outlet announcing layoffs or filing for bankruptcy.
This is no time for progressive news organizations to be cutting back or trimming our sails. There’s simply too much at stake in the year to come, with our planet and our democracy both hanging by a thread.
Please support Common Dreams’ mission today: To inform. To inspire. To ignite change for the common good.
