Dear John,

This week, we consulted with law enforcement on a troubling new antisemitic group that is spreading their hateful message across Canada and continued to strengthen ties between government and community.

The CIJA Team

This summer, printed material and graffiti promoting the Goyim Defense League, an active U.S. white-supremacist group, were found in cities across Canada. The antisemitic group sells Hitler busts on its website, posts virulently anti-Jewish videos on its own TV channel and demonstrates with swastika flags outside American synagogues.

Gerry Almendrades, CIJA’s National Director of Community Security, is consulting with law enforcement across the country about the danger this development poses to Canada's Jewish community. The RCMP, and local police forces are investigating the incidents.

Read Gerry's interview in The Globe and Mail.

In response to our recommendations, the Government of Ontario is investing $25.5 million over two years into a redesigned Ontario Anti-Hate Security and Prevention Grant

The grant features expanded eligibility for organizations and permitted expenses to improve safety and security measures that protect our community from hate. The grant will provide up to $10,000 to help eligible organizations better protect and secure their facilities from hate-motivated incidents. Jewish organizations that are eligible to apply, include:

  • Religious and cultural community centres
  • Places of worship
  • Faith-based private educational institutions
  • Community-based, non-profit, and charitable organizations that, as a primary activity, host regular gatherings of religious, spiritual, or cultural significance

Antisemitism: Face It, Fight It will be the largest gathering of Canadian Jews and allies in years.

2 days // 30+ speakers

12 panels // 2 networking events

1 unprecedented face-to-face meeting with representatives of the Canadian government on Parliament Hill
