Good morning! I'm a bit late getting this out to you today. I had the worst insomnia last night and once I finally did get to sleep, I went well past the time I normally get up.
Last week was a wonderful one - my oldest daughter came down from Canada, my youngest daughter came over, and we all spent the week here in my tiny apartment. We didn't do a lot of notable things but we always have a great time together just hanging out, cooking good food, and talking.
One day, we took my daughter's car and drove to Topsail Island in North
Carolina. We spent the day at the beach, and it was wonderful. As most people had school and work, it was almost like having the whole beach to ourselves. It was my first time at this beach so maybe it's always less busy than the others, but it was a perfect, hot, sunshiney day on the water. We took with us a picnic lunch and drinks and only spent money on gas to get there. But when you're with the right people, any time spent feels like a party, doesn't it?
There have been so many awful things in the news lately. It was nice to disconnect from the constant flow of sadness and corruption and just focus on the people I love most in this world. Times are tight for all of us, but it doesn't really matter quite as much when you're together.
Taking joy in simple things like my family, good food, the weather starting to cool down a little, the cardinal that lives in the tree outside my office window, watching my cat race
around the house in pursuit of her little stuffed mouse, a walk through the trees early in the morning - these are the things that keep me leveled out and my head on straight in an ever more stressful world.
