Continue your advocacy today

Dear Friend,
Every four years, the Environmental Protection Agency identifies where the agency and its state partners can prioritize staff and resources to address the most serious and widespread environmental problems, and for the first time, these enforcement priorities include initiatives to mitigate the climate crisis, address exposure to PFAS contamination, and protect communities from cancer-causing coal ash. To advance the Biden administration’s commitment to protect disadvantaged communities, the EPA will also integrate environmental justice considerations into its initiatives.
In addition, the Biden administration has released a comment period on one of the most effective tools that communities possess to prevent polluting projects happening in their own neighborhoods (National Environmental Policy Act). After the Trump administration radically weakened NEPA regulations, the Biden administration immediately took steps to reverse these dangerous rollbacks and restore the regulations.
This is the kind of progress that gives me hope. Restoring NEPA, the nation’s oldest environmental law, in addition to the EPA uplifting the issues of the climate crisis and pollution from PFAS and coal ash, shows me that these decisions are a result of your advocacy. Your involvement in the rulemaking process holds the Biden administration accountable. It’s with the help of your advocacy, getting plugged into our action alerts, and engaging on these issues that we could have gotten this far.
If this recent news of EPA’s enforcement priorities and a call to strengthen NEPA is telling us anything, it is that your voice is valued and can create change. Please click here to take all of the actions below on one page.

Urge the Biden administration to strengthen NEPA today
The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) is one of the most effective tools communities possess to prevent polluting projects from negatively impacting the health and environment of their neighborhoods. For decades, it has protected vulnerable communities from dangerous projects while simultaneously incorporating community feedback to construct better, more resilient projects that are less likely to face litigation. Urge the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) to strengthen NEPA today!

Tell the BLM to take climate actions on public lands
For decades, the federal oil and gas program has shortchanged taxpayers and provided numerous financial giveaways to oil and gas companies. The Bureau of Land Management is developing new regulations to unwind some of these subsidies — a welcome step towards making the oil and gas industry pay its fair share. Tell the Bureau of Land Management to end financial giveaways to the fossil fuel industry and tie fossil fuel leasing and drilling decisions to our greenhouse-gas reduction goals.

Tell the EPA to strengthen steel mill regulations
Steel production is highly polluting. The 10 steel mills operating in the United States release more than 500 tons of toxic metals into the air of neighboring communities each year. Despite the need for stronger protections, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed a weak rule regulating steel mill emissions. Urge the EPA to strengthen this rule today.

Coke ovens are toxic emitters, and the EPA needs to act
For far too long, companies have put profits over protecting public health. One such example is the steel industry, which uses coke ovens that emit cancer-causing air pollution that is well above safe levels. A coke oven is a chamber that heats up coal to make coke, a hard deposit used to make steel. Tell EPA to finalize the strongest possible and most protective air standards for coke oven emissions so that the agency can deepen its commitment to protecting communities.
