With her hair uncovered, Yasaman handed out flowers to women passengers on a train in Iran. It was International Women’s Day, and Yasaman — a young actor who loves mountain climbing — peacefully protested Iran’s forced veiling laws in an inspiring act of defiance.
A video of her brave act went viral, prompting Iran’s authorities to arrest her. Yasaman was sentenced to a shocking 16-year prison term — all because she believes women should have the freedom to choose what they wear.
Now, we must generate a groundswell of support for Yasaman and show Iranian leaders that the world is watching. We’ve succeeded in winning the release of other Iranian prisoners of conscience before.
