** "Public Charge" Decision Targets Impoverished Children
------------------------------------------------------------

In January, the U.S. Supreme Court lifted a nationwide injunction ([link removed]) , clearing the way for the Trump administration to expand the definition of who is likely to be considered a “public charge,” and therefore ineligible for permanent legal status. The administration's new regulations will force many families to choose between seeking lawful permanent status or meeting their children's basic needs. Our friends at Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition created a helpful infographic ([link removed]) to show who is impacted by this injunction.

** An Expanded Travel Ban, More Family Separation
------------------------------------------------------------

On January 31^st, the Trump administration announced ([link removed]) an expansion of its travel ban, which targets people from African and some predominantly Muslim countries. The ban will add immigration and travel restrictions for people from six more countries that will be applied only on the basis of national origin. Click here to read the Young Center’s statement ([link removed]) about how this decision will lead to further family separation. The expanded ban went into effect Friday, February 21^st. This discriminatory policy, which focuses on migrants from countries such as Nigeria and Tanzania, must end immediately. Click here to contact your representatives ([link removed]) and ask them to vote for the NO BAN Act when it's brought to the House floor to prevent further trauma and family separation.
