Today is Women's Equality Day, celebrating the certification of the 19th Amendment granting women* the right to vote.

You'll notice that asterisk -- that's because not every woman in America was able to vote starting August 26, 1920. Women of color, many of whom were critical to the success of the suffragette movement, were not guaranteed the right to vote until 45 years later, when the Voting Rights Act was passed in 1965.

Women are the most powerful voting bloc in American politics. All of the work we do at EMILYs List is guided by that fact. And we are working every day, every year, every election cycle, to create a more just, diverse, and truly representative democracy by helping Democratic pro-choice women run, win, and change the world.

American history is complicated. We are working hard to learn from our past to build a better future. And we need your input to make that happen.
