Fossil fuel companies predicted global warming with incredible accuracy back in the 1970s. Still, they spent billions advancing climate science denial and distorting public perception of the growing crisis.

Big Oil's greed has caused catastrophic damage, particularly for frontline communities who bear a disproportionate burden of extreme weather events. Marginalized communities are the most vulnerable to floods, heat waves, wildfires, and other climate-related disasters. Climate change continues to cost us lives and tax dollars.

Dirty energy corporations used the same playbook as Big Tobacco, even hiring the same public relations firms and researchers. Both industries raked in billions while lying to the public and denying the extreme damage from the products they peddle. It's well past time to hold the fossil fuel racket accountable, just as we did with Big Tobacco.

Fossil fuel companies have known about the threat of the climate crisis at least since the 1970s, when the industry predicted global warming with incredible accuracy.

And still, these corporations have spent billions to spread doubt and misinformation about the dangers of fossil fuels and to elect climate deniers at all levels of government–robbing a generation’s worth of time to transition our economy onto renewable energy and reverse the devastating impacts we’re currently experiencing.

Fossil fuel companies knew that their decisions were advancing the climate crisis and they ignored the science and lied to the general public. Climate deniers exist because of the fossil fuel industry. We must hold the fossil fuel industry accountable.
